Didier Drogba started on the bench for the Ivory Coast and Portugal had the better of the early exchanges. Didier Zokora was booked for an early foul on Ronaldo and then the Real Madrid forward smacked a terrific long range effort against the post. Midway through the half Demel and Ronaldo got in a little spat of handbags and both got booking in the process. The second half was hugely disappointing with neither side fashioning too many clear cut chances, sub Didier Drogba missed a decent opportunity to make himself a 91st minute hero when he crossed instead of shooting when freed in the box.
