With the ref struggling to keep control of the bookings, Miroslav Klose got himself sent off in the 37th for a nonsense second booking on Stankovic. But that was only the beginning of the madness as within a minute Serbia scored through new Liverpool signing Milan Jovanovic from Zigic’s knock-down in the 6-yard box. Germany almost levelled before the break but Sami Khedira’s shot rebounded off the bar. Early in the second half Podolski missed after a stunning through ball from Ozil. On the hour Lukas Podolski had a great chance to level from the penalty spot, after Vidic had handled, but Stojkovic saved a poor effort. Serbia also threatened with Zigic heading against the bar from a Krasic cross.
